Description
English: The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Twyford. There is a Bronze Age stone circle beneath the modern church of St Mary the Virgin at Twyford. Local tradition maintains that a druidical temple stood here before the first Christian Church (a Saxon building). When the old Church was taken down in 1878, twelve druid stones were found at the foundations of the Norman tower, and are still there. The clipped yew on the left of the picture is claimed to be 1000 years old.
