THE COLAPSE [sic] OF THE FRANKLIN STREET BRIDGE AT MICHIGAN CITY = IND.

Date: June 24, 1910 Source Type: Postcard Printer, Publisher, Photographer: Alfred E. Smith Postmark: None Collection: Steven R. Shook Remark: On June 24, 1910, the S.S. United States had difficulty in negotiating a tight turn on Trail Creek and backed into the Franklin Street Bridge, resulting in the bridge collapsing into the water. The S.S. United States was an excursion ship that traveled between Chicago, Illinois, and Michigan City, Indiana. No serious injuries resulted from this accident and the ship returned to Chicago later in the afternoon.
