English: The Comet This full size replica of the first commercially successful steamboat in Europe (Henry Bell 1812) was built in 1962 to mark the 150th anniversary of the original. It was recently moved from its plinth in front of the town hall to make way for a new retail developent and currently sits looking abandoned on a stretch of the old A8 dual carriageway, minus its wheelhouse, mast and funnel. The original Comet engine is in the Science Museum, London. |
