there is no Cuban Congressat present, the governors permission wasnecessary. A manifestation took place some Sun-days ago to petition the governor to with-draw the edict against cock fighting. Gen-eral Monteagudo headed the procession of500 men, on horseback, and behind himcame Nicolas de Cardenas, Jose ManuelNufiez and Francisco Montalvo. Threebands of music rendered patriotic airs, andeach horseman carried a live roosteradorned with a red handkerchief. Uponreaching the palace, a deputation presenteda memorial to Governor Magoon, who prom-ised to consider their petition in due time. The Coca Cola Company has met withsuch success in the sale of that beveragein the island of Cuba that they have de-cided to erect a factory and manufacturethe product in Havana. The factory willbe situated in the suburb of Cerro, and willbe ready for operation in May. Proprietors of Havana restaurants andcafes who refuse to comply with the sani-tary regulations are fined and compelledto obey the new laws.
