English: The Deerhurst barge moored at Barnstaple. A sad sight to see for those who remember this barge ferrying grain along the River Severn between Sharpness and Healings Mill at Tewkesbury.
The Deerhurst, along with two dumb barges, the Apperley and the Bushley, were ordered by Healings in 1933 and built by Charles Hill & Sons of Bristol. Two larger barges, the Chaceley and Tirley, were ordered in the 1970s, these were moored beside Healings Mill until March 2007 249485 when they were sold after the mill closed. I photographed this barge in Tewkesbury in 1973 1576452 |
