Summary
editDescriptionThe Devil's Chimney - geograph.org.uk - 1262996.jpg |
English: The Devil's Chimney. This little tower, shown in 10248, was perhaps inspired by a tomb near Rome when created by William Ainslabie in the mid-C18. "Square single-storey building perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the valley containing the Seven (Rustic) Bridges Walk. The design is based on a monument traditionally ascribed to the Horatii and Curiatii above Rome." http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=1093285&resourceID=2 |
