Summary edit
DescriptionThe Eigiau Tramway - geograph.org.uk - 657857.jpg |
English: The Eigiau Tramway Slate quarries were opened at Cedryn and Cwm Eigiau early in the nineteenth century and a tramway was opened in 1863 to Cedryn SH7163, later extended to Cwm Eigiau SH7063 and operating until about 1888. When Llyn Eigiau was impounded the old trackbed was flooded, and a new path was made higher up the valley side. This impressive little rock cutting has emerged once more as a consequence of lowered water levels after the dam breach of 1925. The route of the tramway is easily followed along the marshy margin of Llyn Eigiau in this area. |
