English: The Foresters Arms In ancient times when most people were illiterate, tradesmen relied on signs rather than words to advertise their wares. If you were a stranger in a strange place and saw a door with a bush hanging over it you would know you had found a hostelry. Originally the bush was the sign of good wine. Hence the saying "A good wine needs no bush".
