Tattershall Castle seen here is one of a complex of buildings built by Ralph, Lord Cromwell, in the late 15th century and which also included Tattershall College, the collegiate church and the Almshouse. Whilst called a castle it was really a fortified red-brick tower house and one of the first domestic buildings in England to make extensive use of brick. Once with twin moats the Gatehouse stood by the outer one (now dry). The Property belongs to the National Trust. |
