Summary edit

Description National Trust owned historic inn in Southwark. There's been an inn here since the Middle Ages and the current building dates from 1676. It's the last remaining London inn with a gallery, which was once a commonplace.Pete Brown has written an interesting book about the history of the area, centring on the George; Dickens, Clement Atlee, Princess Margaret and (maybe) Shakespeare have all propped up the bar here; worth a read.
