Description
English: The Golden Boys With characteristic Brummie humour this statue is also sometimes referred to as the Carpet Salesmen. Somewhat incorrectly some official publication call the statue The Lunar Men. Whilst is it is true that both Matthew Boulton and James Watt were both eminent members of the Lunar Society Lunar_Society , William Murdoch was in fact an employee of Matthew Boulton and does not appear to have been a member of the society himself. Having said that, he was without doubt a great innovator, and amongst other things is attributed with the first development of gas street lighting. Appropriately, Birmingham's Gas Street is only a couple of streets away.
