English: The Lowry , Salford Quays The Lowry opened on 28th April 2000 and houses two main theatres and studio space for performing arts. A gallery shows the works of LS Lowry alongside contemporary exhibitions. The building was designed by Michael Wilford.
The b is triangular in shape, to fit with its site at the end of Pier 8 at salford Quays. In area it is the size of 5 football pitches. The building stands on 803 concrete piles sunk down into the bedrock; it was made from 48,000 tons of concrete, 2,466 tons of steel and 5,263 sq metres of glass. The photograph was taken from the viewing gallery on the roof of the Imperial War Museum North. |
