Description
日本語: タイヤル族マレツパ蕃社。山の傾斜地に段階狀に部落を作つて居る蕃社。山に住する彼等は平地よりもかう云ふ所に好んで蕃社を作る。殺伐な彼等は敵に備へるため要害の地を選ぶ必要が蕃社を作る一の要素であつたのであらう。アミ族や、パイワン族は集團して部落を作るが，タイヤル族やブヌン族は部落を作る場合もあるが，あちらの山の中腹こちらの崖下と云ふ風に點在して居る場合が仲々多い。ある話には數十丈の崖の上，燕の巢のやうな所に孤立して住んで居る事もある。丁度猛獸が決して集合して居ないのを思ひ起させる。寫真の高い櫓は青年集會所で末婚の若い者の寢泊りする所，床のやや高いのは穀倉，低い家は住家である。（宮本延人）
