Summary
editDescriptionThe Murder Tree and the Brandy Loch - geograph.org.uk - 634796.jpg |
English: The Murder Tree and the Brandy Loch This solitary tree beside the Glenluce - Port William road is the site of an infamous murder in 1880, a crime that remains unsolved to this day. The tree is still known locally as the Murder Tree. The area of marshy ground to the left of the picture, now planted with trees, is what remains of the Brandy Loch, so named because the 18th century smugglers who used this part of the Solway coast to bring in contraband from the Isle of Man, were reputed to hide barrels of brandy there by submerging them in its waters. |
