Description
English: The Neptune pub (site of) 17, Rupack Street, Rotherhithe, London, SE16 This building sits on the site of The Neptune pub that ceased trading in the early 1990's. The original pub was built in 1800 and it's successor, a two storied building, in 1890 but both had the address of 17, Neptune Street. With the building of the Rotherhithe Tunnel in 1908 a lot of Neptune Street disappeared and the small section that remained north of the tunnel was called Rupack Street. "Rupack" means King in what is now Papua New Guinea, dates back to 1783/4 when Prince Lee Boo was brought to this country by Captain Wilson.
