The affection shown here was not always returned by the aircraft. Like a willful, spirited horse it sometimes decided where it was going and when rather than the one who had the fortune, or occasionally misfortune, to be at the controls. After the DHC Chipmunk it seemed a huge brute but generally came to earn a certain loyalty. In fact, I had better luck with it than with the least willful of horses (my horsemanship being woefully deficient). The winter flying gear shown here was usually adequate even in Alberta winters. In the back seat there wasn't much heat directed to one's feet. That sounds like a problem only for the instructors but it was the student who sat there on intstrument training flights. |
