Description

This past Memorial Day weekend I took a trip to the Norfolk Southern Christiansburg District and ventured onto the Pocahontas Division.

The yard in Bluefield, WV was fairly quiet on a Saturday afternoon, but I did fine this contrast of the old and the new. Here are four engines – #3209 a high short hood SD40-2, #5226 a high short hood GP38-2, #8009 and #8030 both ES44-AC’s. The ES44’s were helpers on the rear of a train moving eastward through the yard. The two older engines were tied down for the day at the front of a ballast train.
