July 1874 issue of the <a href="http://shimercollege.wikia.com/wiki/Oread" rel="nofollow">Oread</a>, student newspaper of Shimer College from 1869 to the end of the <a href="http://shimercollege.wikia.com/wiki/Seminary_period" rel="nofollow">Seminary period</a> of <a href="http://shimer.edu" rel="nofollow">Shimer College</a> history. Digitized by Northern Illinois University. This issue includes a speech on visual art entitled "Pictured Thought," by graduating senior <a href="http://shimercollege.wikia.com/wiki/Sophronia_Colean" rel="nofollow">Sophronia Colean</a>. Then a women's seminary in northwestern Illinois, Shimer is today a very small coeducational college in Chicago, known for <a href="http://www.shimer.edu/academicprograms/curriculum/index.cfm" rel="nofollow">its Great Books curriculum</a> and long-running <a href="http://www.shimer.edu/academicprograms/undergraduate/weekendprogram.cfm" rel="nofollow">weekend college</a> and <a href="http://www.shimer.edu/academicprograms/undergraduate/earlyentrantprogram.cfm" rel="nofollow">early entrance programs</a>. |
