English: I can only assume that people were of a much smaller stature when the canals were built because, as you can see, it is not possible, for the average person these days, to stand up as the barge goes under a bridge. I believe this chap was paying attention as I didn't here a thump or a splash shortly after I took this picture. I am yet to undertake a journey on a barge primarily because I don't think I could cope with being stuck in the middle of nowhere for a week or more though this day hire trip has some appeal. Guildford to Godalming and back I could probably cope with.
