The School of Reform |

Description |
English: A better drawn and more elaborate version of BM Satires No. 16586, with similar inscriptions, but with . . . 'shall'. . . in place of 'Shou'd'. Grey's book is blank; behind him is the corner of a high stool. There are sixteen boys six in front, including (right to left) the Dukes of Cumberland and Gloucester, Lord Eldon and Ellenborough (partly hidden by Grey's desk), with London¬derry on his left. In the second row are seven, including Wetherell, sitting next Peel and thumbing his nose. Then (right) are Aberdeen and Newcastle. The pupils do not look at their primers as in BM Satires No. 16586. Wellington weeps with the fingers of both hands in his mouth; his cap is taller, but is not an extin-guisher (a symbol much used in France after the July Revolution as after 1814, but there is no fool's cap in Decamps' print); his words are added in pencil. The boys have small bodies and large heads. Brougham is less caricatured. 1831

editThis image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. ![]() |
