Summary
editDescriptionThe Stone Hole former quarry - geograph.org.uk - 1074776.jpg |
English: The Stone Hole former quarry. Along with 1074770 these photos show part of the old quarry in Whateley known as "The Stone Hole". I would guess the depth to the bottom to be about 50 to 70 ft (approx 20m) and it must have supplied many thousands of tons of rock in its time. The sheer face of quarry can just be seen on the far side, but other sides have gentler inclines from memory - though it is now so tangled and overgrown with trees, shrubs and brambles that closer investigation is nigh-on impossible, and at the very least hazardous !
