The entrance of greatrailway systems into the large cities present most for-midable problems which usually involve all of these ob-jections with reference to steam. The increasing traffichas aggravated the conditions to such an extent as tocompel the adoption of electricity in several notable cases,and experience gained in these cases will serve as a prece-dent for future enterprises. It is, therefore, not inappro-priate to consider the problem of collecting current anddiscussing its possibilities, for it constitutes one of theproblems, and perhaps not the least, which will requiresatisfactory solution before electric traction can be adoptedfor any of these purposes.
