SAGEWAY AT ROCHESTER PARK In order to give the patrons of Genesee Valley Park thebenefits of an additional line to the city without making pas-sengers cross the steam railroaa tracks of the Lehigh Valley A number of electric railway companies in the South arefollowing the practice of operating as a regular departmentof the shops fully-equipped foundries, in which are madepractically all of the bronze and iron castings requiredon the system. Two of the companies, namely the Birming-ham Railway Light & Power Company, of Birmingham, Ala.,and the Georgia Railway & Electric Company, of Atlanta,Ga., maintain particularly complete foundries, and it is be-lieved the following information on the results obtained bythese companies will be of interest. The foundry of the Birmingham Railway, Light & PowerCompany is located at the central repair shops and occupiesa space 70 ft. x 30 ft. CONCRETE PASSAGEWAY AT GENESEE VALLEY PARK, ROCHESTER and Erie railioads, the Rochester Railway Company last yearbuilt a subv/ay passage from the park to a loop used by thecars of the ,^,outh Avenue line on the other side of the rail-road tracks. The total length of the passageway is about 350ft., the subwiy proper being 150 ft. long, with sloping ap-proaches on 13 per cent grade. The subway is 12 ft. wide and8 ft. high in the clear under the tracks. The side walls are ofmass concrete, averaging 3 ft. in width. The walkway isdrained by a 1 2-in. tile sev/cr and is paved with brick the en-tire length am! width. It is lighted by incandescent lampsconnected with the trolley circuit. 30-in. cupola for iron, with a melting capacity of 10,000 lbs.per hour; one No. 4 Sturtevant blower and a tumbler forcleaning castings, both driven by a 7-hp induction motor; oneelectrically heated core oven; 30 wood flasks of various sizesand 24 special flasks for moulding brake shoes.
