Description
English: The Taing of Selwick The Taing is the reef which stretches seawards at low tide. Here it is only partially exposed. The object in the water is a boiler from a steamship which was wrecked here. The friendly farmer who lives at Selwick is full of information and told me about the rescue, which he remembered watching as a boy. The line from the cliffs to the wreck was over a quarter-mile: so long (the longest Breeches Buoy rescue in Britain) that survivors were actually dragged through the water, rather than over it. The survivors were brought soaked to Selwick where they were given food and shelter.
