Description
English:

A tree with a thin, mildly-bent trunk and short needles grows near the edge of a small pond.

The Tamarack is a Larch tree with short, soft needles. Unlike Pine species, the needles of this tree turn yellow and drop before winter arrives, then grow back in spring. Voyageurs and the area surrounding the park have a few locations where Tamaracks grow, although this particular tree was photographed in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
