The temple buildings of the ancient city of Karnak, close to Luxor, Egypt, are mysterious and a huge attraction for visitors. Construction started during the period 2050 BC to around 1710 BC and additions continued until the Ptolemaic Kingdom (305 BC–30 BC). It was here that part of the 1977 film with Roger Moore as James Bond grappled with the villan "Jaws" in "The spy who loved me". Not far away, on the other side of the River Nile, lies the Valley of Kings, where rock cut tombs were excavated for the pharaohs and powerful nobles - most famously that of Tutankhamun.
