Summary
editDescriptionThe Trackbed of the former High Dyke Branch - geograph.org.uk - 1406235.jpg |
English: The Trackbed of the former High Dyke Branch The High Dyke branch was built during the First World War to carry iron ore from quarries at Colsterworth, Skillington, Buckminster, Gunby and Sproxton to the East Coast Main line (the junction and sidings were in square SK9329) and closed in 1973. Earlier OS maps show that the Colsterworth to Buckminster road originally ran N of the railway; it was moved to its present course to the S in 1966 as quarrying in the huge Colsterworth North Quarry extended as far as the railway. The railed parapet is of the bridge shown in two other photographs in this square. The reclaimed quarries are now fields. |
