Description
English: The Zane Foster Memorial Bench Zane Foster was one of the founders of Fawside, Allendale’s community charity, that provides a local source of advice, support and direct practical help for community groups and individuals. Its main aim is to tackle rural disadvantage arising from geographical isolation and its priorities are set by local people. Fawside was established by a group of local volunteers in 1991 and took its name from an historic mine near Allenheads. The organisation became a registered charity in 1994 and a limited company in 2004. It now employs five staff, reporting to a team of ten volunteer directors. Fawside operates from offices at Deneholme which are open daily to the public – visitors are always welcome. See the Allen Valleys Community Website for more information: http://www.allenvalleys.co.uk/default.aspx?tabid=10501. The inscription on the seat slab is "North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty"; that on the foot slab is "1956 Zane Foster 2002".
