Description
English: A centenarian. The brig “Hvalfisken” at Langelinie. The brig was built at Kalmar, Sweden in 1801 by Johannes Ekebom (aka Jonas Ekbom) as the Benohen. In 1802 she was bought by the Royal Greenland Trading Department of Denmark and became the Hvalfisken. She travelled between Denmark and Greenland until laid up in 1899. She was lent to the Kjøbenhavns Amatør-Sejlklub (Copenhagen Sailing Club) and served as floating club house 1902-1915, moored at Langelinie. In 1916 she was sold to the Sailor School of Svendborg and served there as a stationary training ship until 1936. The same year she was sold to the engineering company Saabye & Lerche. Her masts were removed and the barge was equipped with machinery for mixing cement. Her last assignment was mixing cement for the bridge over Aggersund, built 1939-1942. She stayed there until demolished in 1949.
