English: The chain ferry leaving Sandbanks. This is the car ferry 'Bramblebush Bay' which crosses Poole Harbour entrance between Sandbanks and Studland.
It is a chain ferry, which runs back and forward along a pair of heavy chains which are laid across the harbour entrance between the two slipways. This has the advantage that the ferry can operate in either direction without needing to turn round or manoeuvre. This ferry is also a popular object for inexperienced yachtsmen to run into. |
