DescriptionThe churchyard of SS Marcellus and Marcellinus - geograph.org.uk - 992166.jpg |
English: The churchyard of SS Marcellus and Marcellinus In the early medieval period the church at Llanddeusant was dedicated to the sons of Maelog. It was only later that the two 5thC Roman bishops, some say popes, became associated with the church. One of the more colourful clerics of Llanddeusant was the 18thC Owen Bulkeley of the Presaddfed family, a curate who regularly appeared in the pulpit very much the worse for drink and who would toast the Devil on the grounds that if Satan did not exist there would be no need for the clergy. |
