Summary
editDescriptionThe coyote figure and his personality.jpg |
English: The coyote is a canine native to North America. It is smaller than its close relative, the gray wolf, and slightly smaller than the closely related eastern wolf and red wolf.
There is a strong relationship of this animal with Coyoacán, whose name means place of the coyotes and owes its name to the abundant number of animals of this species that populated the area. Although their habitat ranges from Canada to Costa Rica, that is, from North America to Central America, these Canis latrans are known worldwide as coyotes, a name that derives from the word coyotl, of origin Nahuatl. It resulted from the Castilianization of the Nahua voice Coyohuacan, which derives from the terms coyotl “coyote”, -hua “possessive particle”, and -can “locative particle”. In this way, it can be translated as a place of coyote owners. The Coyohuacan glyph is the image of a coyote with a circle in the belly and is the current emblem of the Coyoacán government. Thanks to these reasons, we can find images and logos represented by a coyote around Coyoacán, just as in this photo, taken inside of an ice cream store. |
