Text Appearing Before Image:
im before the council. He had noticeof this design some hours before the mes-sengers arrival, but he made no use of theintelligence. The messenger found himequipped for his journey, at which, ex-pressing his surprise, Mr. Latimer toldhim, that he was ready to attend him to Lon-don, thus called upon to answer for hisfaith, as he ever was to take any journeyin his life ; and that he doubted not butthat God, who had enabled him to standbefore two princes, would enable him tostand before a third. The messenger thenacquainting him, that he had no orders toseize his person, delivered a letter anddeparted. However, opening the letter, and finding it a citation from the council,ho resolved to obey it, and set out imme-diately. As he passed through Smilhfield,he said, cheerfully : This place of burn-ing hath long groaned for me. The nextmorning he waited upon the council, whohaving loaded him with many severe re-proaches, sent him to the Tower, whence, after some time, he was removed to Ox-ford.
