Hardee had only been able to remove his light artillerywith his troops, and the heavy guns, mounted and in store,which were captured, were found to number over two hun-dred and fifty. Thirty-one thousand bales of cotton alsofell into the hands of the National army and were turnedover to the officers of the Treasury Department. We have seen that before November 15thForrests cavalry had joined Hood, and that a portion of theConfederate infantry occupied Florence, covering the bridgethat was laid there in preparation for the advance of thewhole of Hoods army.
