English: The old Guildhall Cinema at Porth Mawr The Guildhall Cinema- one of three cinemas operating in Caernarfon up to the 1960s - was, come to think of it, pretty grotty - indeed a veritable flea pit. Yet, to us kids from the slate quarrying village of Deiniolen with its tin roof cinema, the Hanroy, where a shower of rain usually drowned out the sound, going to the Guildhall on a Saturday evening was the height of sumptuous living. The nearest cinema now is 25 miles away. |
