Description
English: The road to the A4 west of Froxfield Part of the beech woods called Cobham Frith are nearby. In the second world war this road was closed to non-military traffic as it was used to store explosive ordnance such as artillery shells. I have seen a photograph from those days showing the verges alongside the road visible here containing mini-nissen huts each protecting several hundred shells. This and other images showing the part played by Savernake Forest during the war can be seen in this gallery https://www.geograph.org.uk/discuss/?action=vthread&forum=11&topic=6660
