Description
日本語: 神木（紅檜ベニヒ）。阿里山は一設に六、七百年生の老大樹が多く，神木は其代表的なもので，紅檜（べニヒ）と云ひ，槍とは別種で，臺灣固有のものである。高さ百五十尺，目通り周圍約一八．八米，枝下約一三．六米，用材部の材積一千八百石，推定年齡三千年と云ふ。現在日本に於ける大木中，老齡の點では第一位，巨大の點では第四位とされこ居る。鐵道は此の神木の前でスキッチバックして登り，林間學校の下を過ぎて間もなく阿里山驛に着く。登山者は概ね神木で下車し，先づ仰いで其の巨大さに驚かされると共に，周圍の幽邃なる景觀と相俟って何とはなしに威壓され，自然に思ひを千年の昔にはせるのである。（青木繁，臺北帝國大學農林專門部助教授）
