Description |
The separate banqueting hall of the Residency with a view eastwards over the Kaiserbagh, seen from on top of the Residency building in Lucknow. Watercolour of the Residency in Lucknow from 'Views by Seeta Ram from Cawnpore to Mohumdy Vol. IV' produced for Lord Moira, afterwards the Marquess of Hastings, by Sita Ram between 1814-15. Marquess of Hastings, the Governor-General of Bengal and the Commander-in-Chief (r. 1813-23), was accompanied by artist Sita Ram (flourished c.1810-22) to illustrate his journey from Calcutta to Delhi between 1814-15. Nawab Saadat Ali Khan of Awadh (r.1798-1814) constructed the Residency for the British Resident in 1800 along the Gumti river near the Chattar Manzil palace. The use of the English classical architectural style was typical of the period, as many late 18th and early 19th century Lucknow buildings were influenced by European architecture. View of the separate banqueting hall of the Residency with a view eastwards over the Kaiserbagh as far as Constantia and Dilkusha. Inscribed below: 'Another view of the Residency.' |
