The framework is shops is shown in the accompanying line drawing. The sweeperhas an over all length of 28 ft. 5 in. and an inside length of 24 ft5 in. The width is 9 ft. 2 in. and the height from the rail to thetop of the trolley board is 8 ft. 5 in. CRANE CAR OF THE SCHENECTADY RAILWAY CO. made of cast iron with its center placed seven feet from one endof the car. The boom has a swing of 10 ft. on either side of thecar. The bulkhead to which the lifting ropes of the boom areattached is nine feet high, and 1%-in. manila ropes are used. Theropes work through wrought iron guard blocks and over a 10-in.drum with a J4-in. face. The ropes for the hoist are operateddirectly by a separate drum. An accompanying illustration showsthe detail design of the crane table and bed with their roller bear-ings. There has been installed on this car a 3-h. p. GE, type-CE slowspeed motor, operating on 500 volts pressure and geared to thehoisting drum. The motor is series-wound with a speed reduction its workings have been generally successful, a presentation of itsplans and methods of operation may be of interest to other elec-tric railways contemplating the organization of similar associa-tions.
