A drawing of (left to right) the Amahami (32ME8), Sakakawea (32ME11) and Big Hidatsa (32ME12) villages of the Hidatsas in the Knife Region, N:D:; made of Mandan artist Sitting Rabbit in 1907

Summary edit

Description
English: The drawing shows the Hidatsa villages of earth lodges, the nearby, rectangular corn fields, the paths between the villages as well as the Knife River area with Missouri River in the foreground as imagined by the mandan artist Sitting Rabbit in 1907 from informations gathered from older, tribal members. The structure outside the middle village with three persons around may be a “Sun Dance” or “Hide Beating” (Naxpike) lodge, since the Hidatsas did not have a ceremonial lodge in the center of the village
