Summary edit

Description Thick inner walls of the Newman Wine Vaults in St. John's. This atmospheric shot also shows old bottles and kegs. The square thingy at the top of the wall is a beam- more on that later. Believed to have been built in the early 19th century, the Newman Wine Vaults were used by the English mercantile firm Newman and Company to age port wine from Portugal in St. John's – a tradition that began in the late 17th century and continued until the late 19th century. More notes appear earlier on, and later in this album. (St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, June 2015)
