English: The Czechoslovak Legion was organized during World War I and fought in France, Italy, and Russia. After the The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed between the Soviet Union and Germany in 1917 the Bolsheviks were to return all subjects of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the Empire. If the soldiers of the Czechoslovak Legion had been turned over to the Germans or A-H Empire they would have been hanged or shot as deserters. In Russia the C-S Legion fought the Red Army, German and Austro-Hungarian Army units that and were formally prisoners in Russia under the Czar. The C-S Legion fought across Russia from the Urals to Vladivostock and controled the Trans-Siberian Railway until the final units of the Legion left Vladivostock in September 1920. |
