Notes Em 1840, o governo imperial, sob a regência do Marquês de Olinda, considerou imprópria a velha igreja para a categoria de sede da Matriz. Achava que a Matriz de Santa Ana deveria ser mais suntuosa, e em lugar mais amplo. A seguir a Cia. Estrada de Ferro Dom Pedro II (depois E. F. Central do Brasil) necessitou do terreno onde estava a igreja, para levantar ali a estação inicial de sua linha. Em 1850 iniciou-se a construção da nova igreja na Rua de Santana. (Augusto Maurício)
