English: A three body scatter spike is seen here on the weather radar data south of thunderstorm near Mammoth Cave. This feature has been shown to be associated with very large hail within thunderstorms. The radar image here was taken at 2:38 PM EDT at an altitude of about 20,000 feet, and about 19 minutes later one inch diameter hail was reported in Kessinger in Hart County. Français : Un écho caractéristique de réflection à trois corps renvoyé par un orage près de Mammoth Cave. Cet artéfact est le plus souvent associé avec de la grosse grêle car une partie de la réflection sur celle-ci frappe le sol puis revient vers la grêle avant de retourner vers le radar météorologique. Arrivant avec un plus long délais que le retour direct, ces échos ressemblent à un faible pic derrière l'orage. Dans le cas présent, à une altitude de 7 km, de la grêle de 2,5 cm fut rapporté 19 minutes après que le pic fut remarqué sur l'image radar. La flèche pointe vers cet artefact |
