English: Four of the seven Tiffts Houses are seen behind a screen of denuded tree branches in this early-spring streetscape along Allen Street in Buffalo, New York, as seen in April 2015. This group of nearly-identical two-story brick Italianate residences was built in 1868; local lore attributes their design and construction to someone by the name of W. Tiffts (possibly local businessman Wrilson S. Tifft, though the historical record never firmly establishes such a connection). The homes did seem to be built as a speculative venture, as they were all offered for sale or rent immediately after their completion through the firm of Hastings & Otto. Nearby homes on College and Mariner Streets are also attributed to the elusive Tifft or Tiffts, and were also marketed through Hastings & Otto. Originally distinguishable only by the angle of their roofs, the buildings were accented soon after the turn of the century with entranceways and other details in the Georgian Revival style.
