Description

Douglas Lynch, who created these murals on slabs of linoleum in 1937, died a short while ago. www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2009/04/wpa_era_timberl...

He CUT his designs into linoleum and then used oil paint in very thin layers, each layer locked in with a layer of shellac. It was a very time-consuming process, but I really love the result. Some of the paintings are now quite faded because the room was originally a snack bar, and grease would accumulate on the paintings, so people scrubbed them with harsh cleansers. Now the room is no longer a snack bar, so maybe the pictures won't fade any more.
