English: Russia is hosting the 2014 Olympic Winter Games this month, a tradition that champions the spirit of inclusiveness and equality. In June 2013, new Russian laws ushered in a wave of government-sanctioned violence against the Russian LGBT community. As LGBT athletes, these events hit close to home for all of us.
In a show of solidarity with the Russian LGBT community, FRNY has set a goal to cumulatively run at least 4,664 miles - the distance between New York City and Moscow - during the month preceding the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics on Sunday, February 23rd. We kicked off the tally at the Saturday Fun Run on January 25th, and the club's cumulative mileage will be reported in the weekly FRNY grams as well as on this site, so please check back for updates. ALL runners are encouraged to take part. Keep track of your weekly running, and be sure to log it in by Tuesday of each week using this form. This is our chance to come together and reach out to a sister community in need. Every mile counts, so please let us know how much you're running!
