English: Map of the Moon by Tobias Mayer. Mayer drew the map with a diameter of 40 cm. Engraved by Joel Paul Kaltenhofer with a diameter of 20 cm. Published by Georg Christoph Lichtenberg in 1775 in a collection of Mayer's unpublished work. It was the first map of the Moon with a coordinate grid. Though Mayer put great value on accurate positions, the grid was not in his original drawing. It was added by Kaltenhofer on Lichtenberg's instigation (Reference: http://www.lpod.org/?page_id=1593, article by Both on Mayer). North is up.
