English: Tofts and crofts, Guiseley. These are narrow strip-fields. There were ten of them between Union Street (now Queensway) and Wills Gill. The western (left) part was the toft, the land on which the farmhouse was built. A few of the farms are still there see the barn conversion. The crofts were the small fields belonging to each farm, not part of the open field system. This view is from Queensway. |
