English: Tomb of Walter Mayney of Spilsill Manor, Staplehurst. In the south chancel of All Saints' Staplehurst is this altar tomb of Bethersden marble dated 1577. It is the grave of Walter Mayney of Spilsill 892060. Walter, who was Sheriff of Kent 1570-71, is buried here with his two wives, Isabel and Anne Scott. Separate brasses depicting each of them were on top of the tomb but only one of these has survived. See http://www.allsaintsstaplehurst.co.uk/. Walter's elder brother, John, is buried at Biddenden 928263 where the Mayneys had been established since the 14th century. |
